Environmental Surveillance

The Radioactive Materials Branch conducts environmental surveillance activities around the three nuclear power plants in North Carolina, and also monitors the environment for releases of radiation from a plant located near the North Carolina border with South Carolina in the Charlotte, NC, area. These reports are published and are available to the public.

Unpublished reports are available through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and must be requested through the Branch.

In addition to environmental monitoring around nuclear power plants, the agency also monitored radiation from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident in Japan.
