When does a Medical Physicist need to become involved in Evaluations of Equipment Adjustments, Changes, or Repairs?

• Newly Installed X-Ray unit (even if it is used equipment)

• Newly Installed processor (even if it is used equipment)

• X-ray unit or processor disassembled and reassembled at the same or new location

• X-ray tube replacement

• Collimator replacement

• Filter replacement

• AEC replacement

• New Cassettes

Important Definitions:

MP Oversite= verification may be accomplished by a qualified individual other than the medical physicist. The medical physicist should be consulted as to whether an on-site visit is required or if other personnel can verify the standards are being met, with direction from the medical physicist via telephone or printed material from the physicist.

Qualified Individual = ie: radiolgic technologist or service representative with appropriate training/experience.
