15A NCAC 11 .0519 SUBJECTS TO BE COVERED DURING INSTRUCTION OF RADIOGRAPHERS The following subjects shall be covered in the instructions of radiographers: (1) fundamentals of radiation safety: (a) characteristics of gamma and x‑radiation; (b) units of radiation dose (mrem, sievert) and quantity of radioactivity (curie, becquerel); (c) hazards of exposure of radiation; (d) levels of radiation from sources of radiation; (e) methods of controlling radiation dose: (i) working time, (ii) working distances, (iii) shielding, (2) radiation detection instrumentation to be used: (a) use of radiation survey instruments: (i) operation, (ii) calibration, (iii) limitations, (b) survey techniques; (c) use of personnel monitoring equipment; (i) film badges, (ii) pocket dosimeters, (iii) pocket chambers, (3) radiographic equipment to be used: (a) remote handling equipment; (b) radiographic exposure devices, radiation machines and sealed sources; (c) storage containers; (d) operation and control of radiography equipment; (e) storage, control and disposal of sealed sources; (4) the requirements of pertinent federal and state regulations; (5) the licensee's or registrant's written operating and emergency procedures; (6) inspection and maintenance performed by radiographers; (7) case histories of radiography accidents; (8) the conditions of the license or registration issued by the agency.
